Etsy profit calculator
Etsy charges a listing fee, a transaction fee on the item price plus the shipping you charge, and payment processing on the full amount the buyer pays. Offsite Ads can add a large percentage on specific orders. This calculator keeps those four layers separate.

What this calculator includes
- Listing fee charged per quantity sold
- Transaction fee applied to item price plus shipping and gift wrap
- Etsy Payments processing on the full buyer total, including tax
- Optional Offsite Ads fee for orders that come from an Etsy advertisement
- Regulatory operating fee for shop countries where it applies
- Materials, packaging and your own making time
What it does not include
- Currency conversion fees when your listings and bank differ
- Etsy Plus subscription — add it as monthly overhead
- Pattern website costs
- Shipping label discounts specific to your carrier account
Worked example
- Item price: 45.00
- Shipping charged: 6.00
- Transaction fee (6.5% of 51.00): 3.32
- Payment processing: 1.78
- Listing fee: 0.20
In this example, note the transaction fee applies to 51.00, not 45.00 — Etsy charges on the shipping you collect as well as the item.
Frequently asked
Does the Etsy transaction fee apply to shipping?
Yes. The transaction fee is calculated on the item price plus the shipping and gift wrapping you charge the buyer. Charging for shipping rather than building it into the price does not avoid the fee.
Should I include Offsite Ads in every calculation?
No. The Offsite Ads fee only applies to orders that originated from an Etsy-placed advertisement. Model it as a separate scenario to see your worst-case margin rather than applying it to every sale.
How do I account for my own making time?
Use the Labour field under “Packaging, labour & other costs”. Many handmade sellers show a healthy margin only because their time is invisible in the numbers.
